FPIC, as enshrined under the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), allows indigenous people to give or withhold consent to a project that may affect them or their territories. Our policy when dealing with local communities and villagers are guided through our commitment to UNDRIP, and adherence to local law as well as customs (adat). FPIC enables people affected by a project to negotiate the conditions under which the project will be designed, implemented, monitored and evaluated. This allows for the rights to self-determination, participation, and decision-making by affected communities. Once consent have been given, it can still be withdrawn at any stage.

Supporting Traditional Local Music
We are strongly against any form of land grabbing or forceful eviction of indigenous and local communities from their lands. We are commited to uphold the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, as well as the ILO Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention (no. 169) in dealing with local communities. All sacred and customary lands are protected and preserved by the Group out of respect for local inhabitants. Local customs, prayer rituals and ceremonies are upheld in the highest respect by all our employees.

Boundary Consultation at Desa Tumbang Marikoi
Whenever a new location permit is granted for development, we will seek to identify the local communities in order to conduct ‘sosialisasi’ with them. This usually consists of clearly communicating to the communities about the company’s permission, government policies regarding land compensation, our development plans, as well as all the procedures for land identification and compensation. Any land transfer after the completion of the ‘sosialisasi’ process will be documented and witnessed by members of the local government, or any other relevant stakeholders.
Social Impact Assessments (SIA) and Social and Environment Impact Assessment (SEIA) are carried out for all new developments as part of the government's requirement for Analisis Mengenai Dampak Lingkungan (AMDAL).
